Team OPPO or team Vivo?

Build Quality/Design - The Vivo Y95 has a glossy back cover with a gradient colorway that gives it a rather attractive look. It also has a halo notch which gives the Vivo Y95 a streamlined look in front to go with the gradient back.

The OPPO A7 comes out in the lead here since it looks more polished and premium. But, kudos to Vivo Y95 since they also came out with a good looking phone on their part.

Display Quality - The OPPO A7 and Vivo Y95 both has a 6.22-inch 2.5D curved IPS screen running at 1520 x 720 HD+ resolution at 270 ppi. Both has their own version of the dewdrop notch. 

On paper, this aspect is virtually a tie as they port the same size, panel, and resolution. We can expect both devices to be snappy as a 720p display help in performance requiring less resources.

Specs - The OPPO A7 has an ageing Snapdragon 450 SoC running at 1.8GHz. It is backed up by the Adreno 506 GPU, 4GB RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. The good thing is OPPO packed the A7 with their Hyper Boost technology for a smoother gaming experience. It also has a huge 4,230mAh battery.

The Vivo Y95 is one of the first devices with the new 12nm Snapdragon 439 SoC clocked at 1.9GHz. It also has the Adreno 505 GPU, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. In addition, it also has a fairly massive 4,030mAh battery.

On paper, the processor of A7 is faster even if it is older. It even has the  Hyper Boost technology. The A7 also has a bigger battery which is a nice, but the Y95 is not far behind.

Cameras - The OPPO A7 sports a dual rear camera setup with a combination of a 13MP f/2.2 + 2MP f/2.4 with AF and LED flash. The selfie camera has a 16MP f/2.0 with AI Beauty 2.0 and LED flash.

The Vivo Y95, on the other hand, has a 13MP + 2MP  dual rear camera setup with PDAF and LED flash. Up front, it has a 20MP w/ AI face beauty and screen flash. 

We will give this round to the Vivo Y95 since their rear camera has PDAF while the OPPO A7 only has an unspecified type of AF. The Y95 also has a 20MP selfie camera while the A7 has a 16MP selfie shooter.

Kudos to OPPO for having a LED flash both at the back and front.

Our thoughts

The OPPO A7 sports a more premium looking design, better processor, and bigger battery. The chip of the Y95 is newer, but it doesn't mean that it is better.

We will reserve our final judgement in an actual comparison.
