5G in Makati

In a Twitter post, Pangilinan teased yesterday that he was testing a Huawei phone on Smart's 5G network in Makati.

Huawei 5G phone speed test yields 450+ Mbps while the average download speed in the Philippines is 8.1 Mbps.

However, while this could be a huge news for the local telco sector, some found the tweet funny as Pangilinan used an iPhone to tweet his thoughts about the Huawei 5G phone. Even the famous tech expert Marques Brownlee was quick to comment.
Tweet of PLDT's chairman

Last year, PLDT's wireless subsidiary fired up 5G cell sites in Makati Central Business District and in Clark Freeport Zone, where the group conducted the first 5G-to-5G video call between the two cities.

The same scenario happened a number of times already, also involving other big names. So what's the lesson learned? Use the actual device you are using before tweeting.

Now going back to 5G, while the industry said 5G would provide faster internet speed, we may have to wait until next year for its commercial rollout. But technology leaders, like Huawei, have already begun working on new devices.

The Mate 20 X 5G phone?

Earlier this year, the Chinese firm unveiled its Huawei Mate X foldable 5G. But, the phone that MVP teased has a dewdrop notch. So, it is not the Mate X 5G. It could be the rumored Mate 20 X 5G powered by the Kirin 980 processor and Balong 5000 5G modem.
