Meet Cherry Mobile Flare Y7 LTE - Android Go with premium design
The Flare Y7 LTE

The new Cherry Mobile Flare Y7 LTE comes in a premium glass front and glass back that sandwiches a solid metal frame. This makes it one of the few phones that use premium materials in its price range.

Inside is a 1.3GHz MeditaTek MT6739WW Quad-core processor and PowerVR GE8100 GPU with 1GB RAM and 8GB of Internal storage.

Let's take a closer look!

In front is a large 6.2-inch 2.5D curved IPS display with a notch on top. This notch houses the 5MP f/2.4 front facing camera. The top and side bezels are thin while the bottom bezels noticeably thicker.
Glass back
Glass back

The front and back are made of glass that sandwiches a metal frame. There is no mention if the glass panels are Gorilla Glass protected. The textured metal-like plastic frame feels solid.

Aside from the glass panel, you will find the Cherry Mobile logo at the back along with the 13MP f/2.2 single rear facing camera with LED flash.

The two glass panels do not curve and thus form chamfered edges with the metal frame. This leads to a somewhat uncomfortable handholding experience after an extended period.

Both glass panels are fingerprint magnets and are quite slippery. You may one to be extra careful to not let this phone slip from your fingers.

The rest of the features

Flare Y7 runs on a 1.3GHz 64-bit MT6739WW quad-core processor and PowerVR GE8100 GPU with 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage (expandable up to 32GB). It is powered by a 2800mAh battery that is charged via micro USB.

It is running on Android 8.1 Oreo Go Edition meaning that the OS is designed for more affordable components. This also resulted in frequent crashes with benchmarking tools like AnTuTu and GeekBench 4.0.

For Audio, the device has a 3.5mm headphone jack and a bottom firing speaker. It connects via WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and 700MHz LTE. It even supports dual sim!

Quick thoughts

Cherry Mobile has released a beautifully built phone out of glass and metal at an incredibly low price. Though it runs Android 8.1 Oreo Go Edition, the software may need more optimizations because even though it is running on a MT6739WW and PowerVR GE8100, the performance out of the box is noticeably sluggish.

We may have to wait for an update before we can fully recommend the Flare Y7 LTE.

BUT if you are looking for a good looking phone for under PHP 5,000, there isn't really much of a competition.

What do you guys think?
