Sharp R5G is official, a flagship with QHD+ 120Hz screen, SD865 chip, and 8K video support

In Japan, the Sharp R5G has just been launched. It is a flagship-grade smartphone equipped with the top-of-the-line Snapdragon 865 chipset, separate Qualcomm X55 5G modem, and the ability to capture up to 8K videos.

A promising Japan-made flagship with monster specs

The handset boasts a glass back design with IP68 water resistance, a 6.5-inch QHD+ screen with a super-smooth 120Hz refresh rate and a notch, 12GB LPDDR5 RAM, 256GB UFS 3.0 storage with microSD slot expansion, and 3,730mAh battery with USB-C charging.


For cameras, it highlights a 12MP OIS primary camera, 48MP ultra-wide secondary camera, 12MP telephoto third camera with OIS, and a 3D ToF fourth camera. It has the ability to shoot up to 8K videos using ultra-wide mode.

For selfies, there's a 16MP camera in the notch. There's another notch at the bottom of the screen where sharp added a traditional capacitive fingerprint reader.

The device also has a stereo speaker setup and Android 10 operating system. It weighs at 189 grams.

It is available in Blue, Black, and White colorways. 

There's no word about the pricing and official date of availability for the Sharp R5G yet.
