First look at Sony's new PS5 wireless controller

The company's new controller has dropped the DualShock naming in favor of DualSense. It'll still vibrate to match certain actions in the game, but it now has a more advanced haptic feedback system for a more accurate sense of touch while in the game.

PlayStation said that this is the company's best controller to date and they listened to customer and developer feedback.

This is the first PlayStation controller with a two-tone design of just black and white colors. The company removed the light bar on top of the controller and moved on the sides of the touchpad to prevent it from reflecting on the TV screen and be a distraction.

It now has a new Create button to replace the Share button, the angle of hand triggers was slightly adjusted, and it now has a microphone array that will allow for chatting even without a headset.

This has adaptive triggers as well. The company previously said that this tech will allow a player to feel the tension on the string of a bow when shooting an arrow.

The company said that the overall design of the new controller has been tested by a wide range of gamers with a variety of hand sizes to help them achieve the comfort level and ergonomics that will likely suit anyone.

DualSense marks a radical departure from our previous controller offerings and captures just how strongly we feel about making a generational leap with PS5. The new controller, along with the many innovative features in PS5, will be transformative for games – continuing our mission at PlayStation to push the boundaries of play, now and in the future. To the PlayStation community, I truly want to thank you for sharing this exciting journey with us as we head toward PS5's launch in Holiday 2020. We look forward to sharing more information about PS5, including the console design, in the coming months.

Apart from the design changes, Sony said that this new controller has less weight, but it maintained a strong battery life while adding as many features as possible.

The company is now starting to ship the new controller design to developers for them to start implementing new controller-based features into their games.
