ABS-CBN shutdowns FREE TV, radio operations

In a statement, the Kapamilya network said it has no choice but to shut down its free television and radio operations even though millions of Filipinos are relying on their news and entertainment every day.

The NTC issued an order dated May 5 said the network should discontinue its operations after its legislative franchise expired yesterday, May 4. It gave ABS-CBN 10 days to appeal the decision.

This despite its vow to issue a provisional authority to ABS-CBN, allowing the latter to continue its operations while the Congress has yet to act on its franchise renewal.

We trust that the government will decide on our franchise with the best interest of the Filipino people in mind, recognizing ABS-CBN’s role and efforts in providing the latest news and information during these challenging times.

ABS-CBN said it would find ways to continue servicing the Filipino people, particularly now that the country is facing a health crisis.
