No more 4G phones by end 2020 in China

Lei Jun said that the company will stop making 4G smartphones in China by the end of this year. He added that the company has also started the pre-research on 6G along with the development of satellite internet.

Xiaomi will also focus more on mobile and AIoT. They will also work with the Chinese government to build disaster warning systems and other public service systems relying on 5G technology.

Lei Jun noted that 5G is set to revolutionize the industry with applications like 4K/8K video conferencing, cloud gaming (game streaming), and autopilot.

Since 2019, Xiaomi has been releasing 5G smartphones left and right. Earlier this year, the company revealed the Mi 10 5G series for their flagship models. The company has also released one of the most affordable 5G smartphones in the world recently, the Redmi 10X with a CNY 1,599 price tag.

This suggests that we will see even more affordable 5G devices from the company in the near future as we are still in the early stages of 5G adaptation.
