vivo formalize a partnership with ZEISS, will co-engineer mobile imaging technologies

vivo today has formally announced its partnership with German optical manufacturer Carl Zeiss AG (ZEISS) to co-engineer mobile imaging technologies.

Together, the two will establish the vivo ZEISS Imaging Lab. It's a joint R&D program that will develop innovative solutions for mobile imaging in the future. This is on top of vivo's several imaging R&D centers globally with more than 700 staff.

According to its official announcement on Facebook, the vivo | ZEISS Co-engineered Imaging System are optical components for vivo high-end products.

The two companies also announced that the partnership will start the vivo ZEISS Master Photography campaign which will promote newly developed imaging systems to inspire users to enjoy their creativity with vivo's flagship smartphones.

Through the partnership, ZEISS imaging technology will be enjoyed by much more consumers. Based on the synergy and complementarity of optical expertise and new digital technologies, vivo and ZEISS intend to make the strategic collaboration a starting point to create new opportunities for mobile imaging, enable more creativity, so as to support the long-term and healthy development of the entire industry, said Spark Ni, Senior Vice President and CMO of vivo.

The partnership between vivo and ZEISS is all about mobile imaging," said Joerg Schmitz, Head of ZEISS Consumer Products. “The breadth of ZEISS’s decades-long expertise with optical technologies and imaging will enable vivo to enhance the imaging performance of its flagship smartphones.

vivo noted that that ZEISS' optical technologies and expertise would significantly improve the optical performance of mobile imaging of vivo smartphones to a new level. On the other hand, vivo, with 380 million users worldwide, has a strong understanding of consumer preferences in mobile imaging.

The two aim to provide consumers worldwide with a more appealing, easier-to-use, and more professional mobile photography experience.

The first vivo product to use vivo | ZEISS Co-engineered Imaging System will be the vivo X60 series. It comes with ZEISS Vario-Tessar lenses featuring the T* anti-reflective coating and ZEISS' 3D PoP algorithms for bokeh rendering.

The X60 phones will go official on December 29. Obviously, this will be a long-term partnership to challenge the collaboration success of Huawei and Leica.
