Gartner's latest figures showed that the Chinese company grew by 34.9 percent, enough to kick Apple at the number 3 spot. In particular, Xiaomi captured 12.1 percent  (44,304.4 units) of the market share for the said quarter. In comparison, Apple declined by 0.6 percent and only achieved 11.11 percent or 40,598.4 units.

The market analysts attribute this lead to Huawei's loss in markets outside of China due to the China-US trade war situation. If Huawei's fate doesn't change in the next quarters, Xiaomi could overtake Huawei next.

At number 1 is still Samsung with 2.2 percent growth and 22 percent of the pie. Huawei is still at number 2 despite dropping by 21.3 percent with 14.1 percent of the pie. At number 5 is OPPO with an 8.2 percent market share even if it dropped by 2.3 percent annually.

Apple is expected to recover in Q4 2020 due to the launch of the newest iPhone 12 series with 5G.

The worldwide smartphone sales during the quarter totaled 366 million units which are down by 5.7 percent versus the third quarter of 2019.
