Phones with high refresh rates became a trend back in 2020. But, that feature is not common on budget phones—especially here in the Philippines.

Smoother display for less

But if you are on a tight budget and yet you still want to experience the benefits of a high refresh rate screen, there is one device with the said feature under PHP 10K from OPPO, the OPPO A53 2020.

First announced in November 2020, the said device is still the most affordable with a 90Hz panel among all officially available phones in the country at PHP 8,990.

The OPPO A53 boasts a 6.5-inch LCD screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, HD+ 1600 x 720 resolution at 269 ppi, and a punch-hole housing the 16MP f/2.0 AI selfie cam.

The advantage of having this display is you will be able to enjoy smoother UI animations and transitions versus 60Hz panels. The UI will feel faster and smoother to let you navigate quicker.

If the game you are playing supports HFR or High Frame Rate, there's a chance that it'll make your playing experience nicer as well.

Also, smearing of the text and images when scrolling will be lesser versus 60Hz screens.

Our only nitpick, the display's resolution is just HD+. But let's all remember that not all under PHP 10K phones have a 1080p panel. Having a 90Hz HD+ screen is still better than a 60Hz HD+ screen.

Capable specs for the price

Apart from its 90Hz display, the device has decent speed for the price. It is powered by the reasonably responsive 2.0GHz 11nm Snapdragon 460 octa-core processor with Adreno 610 GPU. Adreno 610 is the same GPU that could play a few demanding games (medium settings mostly) found on the slightly higher-end SD665.

It also paired with 4GB LPDDR4 RAM for respectable multitasking and 64GB UFS 2.1 storage. LPDDR4 is a bit faster than most unspecified RAM types for the price. UFS 2.1, on the other hand, is a speedy type of memory commonly found on mid-range phones.

For battery, it uses a large 5,000mAh battery with up to 2 days of battery life on a single charge. Having a large battery on a phone with a power hungrier higher refresh rate screens is important.

Moreover, it has a USB-C 18W fast charge support with a fast-charge power brick included in the package.

This device also has a 13MP triple-cam with macro and bokeh mode. It is also one of the few with a stereo speaker setup on a budget.
