Nokia to build Globe's 5G network in Visayas, Mindanao

Nokia said the agreement covers the upgrade of the existing 4G network of Globe on the said islands.

The financial details of the deal, however, were not disclosed.

Globe earlier this week said its 5G network is now present in 1,069 areas across the Philippines. In Metro Manila and Rizal alone, its 5G network now covers 849 locations.

The network is also accessible in Negros Occidental, Cebu, Iloilo, Aklan, some areas in Misamis Oriental and Davao del Sur as well as in Laguna and Bulacan.

According to Globe, 5G delivers faster speeds, higher bandwidth, and more stable internet connections compared to 4G.

Coco Domingo, Globe VP for Postpaid and International, earlier said the group would continue to widen its 5G reach across the country this 2021.

We are rolling out more 5G areas this year to make this new technology more inclusive. We want more Globe customers to experience the difference of 5G technology in terms of better and faster connectivity. This technology has vast potentials and soon we will start rolling out cases that are best experienced with 5G, Domingo said.

Domingo said the local market will continue to witness more 5G-compatible devices.

Along with the expansion, the growing availability of 5G-enabled devices, especially those offered on Globe postpaid plans plus the compatibility of the LTE SIM to the 5G network, makes accessing the 5G technology much more seamless, Domingo said.
