Facebook officially launches Instagram Lite for low-end devices

After an extensive testing phase, Facebook made Instagram Lite official. This is made to work with fewer data and resources on low-end devices.

It has fewer animations and features

Instagram Lite only takes a whopping 2MB on your phone. This is because some of the intensive animations and other heavy features were taken out of the app. There are also no cube transitions and intensive AR filters. GIFs and stickers were retained though.

It has Dark Mode and the same UI

Dark Mode is also still a key feature in Instagram Lite. Facebook stated that the reason behind this is that it allows people to use the app more privately without bothering others around them. In terms of UI, there seems to be not much of a difference except for the transition animations.

Instagram Lite is available on the Google Play Store in more than 170 countries right now. A global launch to all countries and regions is expected to come soon. An iOS version is yet to be confirmed though.
