LG OLED screens on Samsung TVs soon?

The deal is not final yet, but the reports said that Samsung is looking to buy a million OLED panels in the second half of 2021 and four million more next year from LG Display.

This suggests that Samsung is looking to rely more on OLED panels in the future instead of LCD.

LG screens are consistently getting high ratings from professional reviews.

LG Display's total OLED TV panel production capacity is around 8 million units this year according to an MTN report.

To recap, Samsung has exited the OLED TV market in 2015 and it is the only major TV manufacturer not to produce OLED screens.

Samsung manufactures its own OLED panels, but it seems that its production is limited to smaller displays meant for laptops. There are claims that Samsung is working on a prototype Quantum Dot OLED panel for TVs, but it isn't ready yet.

Once finalized, the deal with LG Display will help Samsung fully shift from LCD to LED and this is the first time that Samsung will purchase from its rival.

Samsung's LCD production expected to end at some point this year.

Update: Samsung Philippines has reached out to the GIZGUIDE team and has confirmed that this is just a rumor. In Korean, you may read this statement.
