A space for casual, drop-in audio conversations

Originally launched as an iOS app last year, Clubhouse is said to be a space that you can meet new people, talk, and share ideas. Earlier this month, Twitter introduced a similar feature to Clubhouse called Spaces.

Clubhouse is a new type of network that is solely based on voice. The app gained its popularity after Elon Musk joined a live conversation on the Good Time Show.

Clubhouse intends to eliminate its users' worry about eye contact, what you're wearing, or where you are because they don't need to use their camera. Another advantage is that they can use the app whatever they're doing, whether doing household chores or commuting.

The app works by letting users create and join rooms so they can have a conversation in a conference call. When you open the app, you will see a list of rooms as well as a list of whose in each room. They cannot share pictures, videos, or even text so they just have to talk. If things got boring, they can leave the room at any time.

Most of the time, Clubhouse rooms are hosted by experts, celebrities, venture capitalists, journalists, and so on. They also hire moderators in order to make sure that the platform supports free speech and healthy dialogues at the same time.

Allegedly, Clubhouse had 600,000 users as of December last year. Due to its invite-only protocol, you can't simply download the app and sign up. However, you can install and open it so you can register interest and reserve a handle. After that, you'll receive a blog post explaining that you must wait for an invite.

Note that Clubhouse is in the beta phase right now, hence the general release version isn't ready yet. The app creator says it wants to grow its community slowly to ensure that "things don’t break, keeps the composition of the community diverse, and allows us to tune the product as it grows".

For now, Android users can now download the app so they can reserve their handle or username.
