Disney shifts focus on streaming service
In a statement, the company said operations would be halted on October 1.
This is as The Walt Disney Company targets to focus on a Direct-to-Consumer model and grow its streaming services.
These efforts will help us align our resources more efficiently and effectively to current and future business needs, The Walt Disney Company said.
A report from Variety stated that the channels set to be shut down include Fox, Fox Crime, Fox Life, and FX; movie channels Fox Action Movies, Fox Family Movies, Fox Movies and Star Movies China, Disney Channel and Disney Junior, Nat Geo People and SCM Legend.
Sports channels such as Fox Sports, Fox Sports 2, Fox Sports 3, Star Sports 1, and Star Sports 2, will no longer be aired in the said markets.
The group's streaming service Disney+, on the other hand, is expected to reach more markets in the region this 2021.
Earlier this year, Disney+ was rolled out in Singapore, offering over 650 films and 15,000 episodes of entertainment shows.
