Ookla: Smart delivers fastest 5G mobile network in PH

PLDT's wireless arm Smart Communications continued to lead the 5G race in the Philippines in the first six months of 2021, data from Ookla showed.

In the newly released Fastest 5G Mobile Award report, Smart secured the top rank with a Speed Score of 204.81, posting download and upload speeds reaching 220.66 megabits per second (Mbps) and 20.61 Mbps, respectively.

The results were based on 237,142 user-initiated 5G tests taken with Speedtest covering the first half.

The company also clinched the title as the fastest mobile network with a Speed Score of 44.70, a dramatic increase from last year's 24.99.

Mario G. Tamayo, Head of Technology at PLDT and Smart, meanwhile, said the group will allow more Filipinos to access the network as it expands the 5G coverage. Tamayo stressed network improvements will continue to hit the telco's target of delivering world-class services.
