Tower Watch PH is now official
The Department of Information and Communications Technology is further strengthening the telco industry with the official launch of Tower Watch PH, which seeks to streamline permit processing time and ramp up the deployment of network infrastructure nationwide.
DICT Secretary Gregorio "Gringo" Honasan II said the initiative will still be in place regardless of changes in national leadership.
The case is when a new administration sits in, some projects of the previous admin are sidelined to give way to the projects of the current admin—we don’t want that to happen. We hope to ease the regulatory burdens that impede the construction of necessary telecommunications infrastructure. We also hope to promote transparency and accountability — two important factors in ascertaining the speedy approval and issuance of tower permits, Honasan said.
The DICT is also optimistic that the new initiative could entice more investments.
Earlier, the agency said it is committed to introducing an online portal where companies registered to deploy common towers would be monitored by all parties concerned.
Dominant telcos PLDT and Globe already sealed a deal with common tower builders. Third player DITO Telecommunity is also banking on this shared tower initiative to further boost its presence in the country.
