TikTok, COMELEC partner to urge Filipino voters to participate in 2022 elections

TikTok—a mobile video-sharing platform—and the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) recently sealed a deal to provide Filipinos with easy access to information about the upcoming 2022 elections.

The two parties inked a memorandum of understanding last September 8 to formalize their partnership.

The poll body's official account on the platform, the company said, will be a source of trustworthy election-related information, while encourages Filipinos for their active participating in the May 2022 national elections.

The COMELEC's account will feature events, videos showing relevant election data from COMELEC, and up-to-date voting results.

TikTok's partnership with COMELEC opens up new and innovative ways to share and consume accurate information about the coming elections for the Filipino public. We are committed to providing credible, fact-based content to help Filipino voters make informed choices during the election period, said Kristoffer Rada, TikTok Head for Public Policy.

COMELEC Spokesperson James Jimenez, meanwhile, acknowledged the crucial role of tapping "emerging platforms".

It allows the Commission on Elections to broaden the reach of its voter education and information drive. Through this partnership with TikTok for the 2022 National and Local Elections, we forge valuable cooperation that will buttress our goal of conducting clean, honest and credible elections, Jimenez said.
