Smart 5G roaming service now live in South Africa

The 5G roaming service of Smart Communications is now present in 34 countries after sealing a partnership with a telco firm based in South Africa.

Smart expands 5G roaming service to South Africa

PLDT's wireless unit, in a statement, said the group has now 50 partners across five continents, with MTN Global Connect as its latest partner.

Given this, customers of the Filipino telco can now enjoy 5G roaming access with their 5G-capable SIM and devices when they subscribe to Smart’s GigaRoam 1GB roaming plan for only PHP 999 valid for 5 days.

This is part of Smart’s commitment to bring our world-class services to anywhere in the world by expanding our 5G roaming coverage in Africa, after our successful rollout with 50 partners in Europe, USA, Middle East, Australia, and Asia. Our goal is to enable our global customers with fast data speeds whenever they access our Smart 5G roaming services through our growing list of international telco partners, said Ray Arsenal, AVP and Head of Roaming Partnerships.

  

Smart has 34 countries with 50 partners worldwide

Aside from South Africa's MTN, Smart 5G roaming services have been also activated with Taiwan Mobile; Swisscom in Switzerland; Telia Sweden; Telia Norway; Telia Finland; Telia Denmark; Telekom Deutschland in Germany; Hutchison HK in Hong Kong; AWN in Thailand; Vodafone in Romania; and Proximus in Belgium. 

In the local scene, Smart said it is leading the 5G race as it now has over 4,000 sites across the country.
