Canalys regarded the component shortage as the "chipset famine". It is said that the smartphone industry is maximizing the production of devices as best as it can. Chipset manufacturers are also battling hoarding by raising the pricing as well. Shortages are expected to persist well into 2022. Due to this, smartphones are projected to increase in the future.

In terms of YoY numbers of smartphone shipments for Q3 2021, Samsung retained the top spot with a 23 percent market share which is the same figures it had in Q3 2020. Apple was able to retake the second spot with a 15 percent market share followed closely by Xiaomi in third with a 14 percent market share. Apple's resurgence to number 2 is due to the popularity and early demand for the iPhone 13 series.

In fourth and fifth sports are vivo and Oppo with a 10 percent market share each. Overall, only Apple has shown a significant change in market shares with a 3 percent YoY growth. In addition, OnePlus devices were also added to OPPO shipments for Q3 2021.
