New emojis, including finger heart, to arrive as part of the iOS 15.4 beta!

With the iOS 15.4 update introduced, Apple has added support for Emoji 14.

iOS to welcome 37 new emojis

37 new emojis are expected to show up on iOS devices 

The update includes a selection of new emoji-like melting faces, biting lips, heart hands, and more. Allegedly, the emojis included in this beta release are drawn from Unicode's September 2021 recommendations. There are 37 new emoji and 75 skin tone additions in Emoji 14, resulting in a total of 112 characters.

Smiley emojis

The iOS 15.4 beta includes seven brand new smiley emojis - the largest number since 2017's iOS 11.1 update. The new smiley emojis are: Melting Face, Face with Open Eyes and Hand Over Mouth, Face with Peeking Eye, Saluting Face, Dotted Line Face, Face with Diagonal Mouth, Face Holding Back Tears.

According to the source, the Face with Open Eyes and Hand Over Mouth may look familiar to many. However, this is new emoji is intended to be displayed with open/neutral eyes on all platforms.

Meanwhile, Face with Hand Over Mouth sports a new appearance in iOS 15.4 beta 1. It is now showing with smiling eyes to match other major vendors. Emojipedia said that disambiguation should help avoid emoji confusion when this emoji is sent in the future. 

In terms of gender consistency, vendors are reportedly making efforts to all people emojis with three different gender variants: man, woman, and a non-gender-specifying person. The iOS 15.4 beta update continues this trend as it adds 2 new gender-neutral people emojis: one is a person with a crown and a pregnant man emoji.

Hand Gestures emojis

 

For hand gestures, the beta update features 7 new hand gestures emojis. Each of them supports skin tone modifiers. This includes the following: Rightwards Hand, Leftwards Hand, Palm Down Hand, Palm Up Hand, Hand with Index Finger and Thumb Crossed, Index Pointing at the Viewer, and Heart Hands (also known as finger heart)

The rollout of the beta OS also includes 25 new versions of the Handshake emoji. While other vendors have supported single skin-tone variations of the  Handshake, this is the first time Apple devices have supported this type of emoji design within their native emoji set.  

At present, the emoji picker only offers the five variants where both hands share the same skin tone. The source said that this will likely change ahead of the official release of iOS 15.4 in the coming months, possibly through an additional iOS 15.4 beta update.
