If you are a fan of Garena's battle royale game called Free Fire, realme's newest limited edition smartphone might catch your interest.
Meet realme 9 Pro+ Free Fire Limited Edition

The Philippines' top mobile player recently introduced the realme 9 Pro+ Free Fire Limited Edition.

Priced at PHP 20,990 with an early bird price of PHP 18,990 until April 26, 2022, the realme 9 Pro+ Free Fire Limited Edition features a Free Fire-inspired skin for the design, packaging, and even user interface.

For specs, it is similar to the PHP 23,990 vanilla realme 9 Pro+ smartphone with a flagship-worthy 50MP OIS camera, 6nm MTK Dimensity 5G chip, high-refresh-rate AMOLED screen, In-Display fingerprint reader with heart rate monitor, and super-fast charging.

The only difference on paper is the Free Fire Limited Editon has a smaller 128GB internal storage but at a more affordable price tag.

So, let's check it out!

Unboxing/Accessories

The box
The box

The realme 9 Pro+ Free Fire Limited Edition has a slightly different packaging from the regular realme 9 Pro+. But, what's inside is a bit different.

The cover of the box has a Free Fire game map inside and Free Fire card with a gift code.

Inside, the main box is another carton containing the paper documentation, Free Fire stickers, FREE translucent TPU flexible case, and the Free Fire Knife-themed SIM eject tool.

Next, you will find the handset itself with a pre-installed screen protector followed by the USB 60W power brick and the USB-A to USB-C long data/charging cable.

Similar to the regular 9 Pro+, it has no FREE earphones with a microphone though.

Build Quality/Design

Beautiful finish!
Beautiful finish!

As expected, the
realme 9 Pro+ Free Fire Limited Edition is a classy-looking handset with a Free Fire-inspired finish.

Free Fire inspired design!

What we like about it is it uses premium materials which include a real glass back cover instead of glasstic like other similarly priced, so this is a plus.

It also has a glass-like bump containing its triple-camera setup. Just expect it to wobble when tapped on a flat surface.

The back is 3D curved making it comfortable to hold. Due to its slim 7.99 mm thickness and the not that big size for a phone with a large display, it is easy to pocket as well.

Since it is glossy, it is a bit prone to fingerprint smudges. Thankfully, the device is not as slippery as expected.

The main highlight of this device is the Free Fire-inspired design. Its glossy finish comes with rainbow elements that are inspired by Free Fire in-game weaponry including the Combat Knife, gun barrel, and gun slide.

If you will notice, there is a "BOOYAH!" text printed on the left side of its camera hump. The word "BOOYAH!" is the winning chant of the Free Fire game.
Big screen

In front, it uses a 6.4-inch AMOLED screen with a layer of Gorilla Glass 5 to protect it against light scratches or cracks when dropped accidentally.

The device also has a top-left-aligned punch-hole for the selfie camera and slim top and side bezels. The chin is a bit thick similar to the regular 9 Pro+.

On the top bezel is the ear speaker that acts as the secondary speaker of the device allowing it to have a stereo sound.

The frame of the device is metal with neatly finished chamfered edges.

On top, it has a microphone hole. Below, you will see the headphone jack slot, another mic, a USB-C port, and the main speaker.

On left, it has the pinhole to access the hybrid dual SIM card tray along with the volume up and down keys. On the right, it has a power key.

Like the regular realme 9 Pro+, the build of this device is solid and it will likely last with proper care. The only downside is the lack of IP rating for water resistance.
50MP main camera!
50MP main camera!

Like the realme 9 Pro+, the Free Fire Limited Edition is also equipped with the  50MP f/1.8 Sony IMX766 sensor with large 1/1.56-inch sensor size. To recap, this is the same main shooter found on many high-end smartphones last year and even this year.

Same flagship main camera goodness!

For cameras, the handset banners the massive 50MP f/1.8 Sony IMX766 sensor. At 1/1.56-inch, this sensor size is bigger than several camera sensors found on more expensive smartphones. In comparison, this is larger than the 1/1.9-inch 12MP main cam of the regular iPhone 13.

The rest of the camera specs include an 8MP f/2.2 119-degree ultra-wide-angle w/ EIS + 2MP f/2.4 4cm macro + LED flash. It also has a 16MP front camera shooter.

We used the phone to take a few photos last Sunday, have a look.

The camera experience is super similar to the vanilla realme 9 Pro+ since both have the exact same camera specs and processor.

So, as expected, the realme 9 Pro+ Free Fire Limited Edition can take superb images using its main camera in nearly all lighting conditions and situations. It is amazing for daylight shots, indoor shots even with artificial or even dim light could look highly detailed, close-up shots have a very nice background blur, and low light shots even without the Night mode are decent. With the Night mode, the shots will be even better.

The ultra-wide cam and the macro cam are weaker, but still decent in general.

We also like that the device has OIS + EIS combined for stabilized videos using the main camera.

As of the moment

Free Fire capable!

The realme 9 Pro+ Free Fire Limited Edition is a highly intriguing smartphone at this price point.
Fast performance
Fast performance

It could be the device to get if you are a HUGE Free Fire fan and you want to experience almost all of the goodness found on the realme 9 Pro+ at a slightly more affordable price tag of PHP 20,990.

Again, the only difference coming from the PHP 23,990 realme 9 Pro+ with 256GB is the Free Fire Limited Edition has a smaller 128GB storage.

So far, we enjoyed that it is using a 90Hz AMOLED screen with good image quality in real-life, super-fast 60W fast charging, and stereo speakers as well. It even has an In-Display fingerprint sensor with a heart rate monitor.

For gaming, it runs Free Fire effortlessly with minimal heating a well.
