Team GIZGUIDE recently spotted that the Product Protection Services is now available for Shopee users in the Philippines.
Shopee Insurance or Product Protection Services is an add-on that buyers can purchase to protect their mobile devices and electronic appliances. However, it is currently available to selected stores selling eligible products.
According to the website, there are two types of protection services from Shopee. One is the cracked screen protection, and the other is electronics protection. The first one is a plan that covers accidental damage to the front screen of your device due to accidental physical impact.
Meanwhile, the latter is a plan that protects your electronic devices/appliances from accidental and liquid damage. It also covers damage or loss arising from theft with forcible entries.
Just a disclaimer, we only discovered the electronic protection, so we have not encountered the cracked screen protection yet.
Shopee notes that if any of the above happens, buyers may submit a claim to their service partner, Igloo, to avail of professional repair or replacement services via authorized centers.
The buyer will have the option of a protection service during the checkout process. Sellers on the platform do not need to enable the services by themselves since the system allocates the appropriate Product Protection Service for each eligible item.
Allegedly, both buyers and sellers will benefit from this setup. It will encourage the purchase and increase confidence from buyers of electronic items for sellers. No additional fees are incurred from them for this service.
For buyers, it is an additional coverage against risks. Once their claim has been approved, they will be receiving guaranteed compensation of up to 100 percent of the product price for the damaged item within the coverage period. This can go up to 12 months or 1 year.
For example, we plan to check out this particular garment steamer from a local online store, and the item is eligible. We have the option to avail of it with the electronic protection with an additional fee of around PHP 30.
When we read about the fine print that Shopee will reimburse us 100 percent of what we paid for if the item is lost due to theft or accidentally damaged, it seems like such a good deal.
Imagine if you would be ordering a mobile phone, tablet, or laptop that costs thousands of pesos?
Note that users can not use vouchers for the protection service itself. Those are only applicable to the price of the item.
What do you guys think?
