HUAWEI IMAGE tech will be used on its high-end camera phones moving forward

To those who missed it, the roughly 7 years of partnership between Huawei and Leica has recently ended. The last line of Huawei devices with a Leica-enhanced camera is the P50 series.

HUAWEI IMAGE to replace Leica?

The question is, what will Huawei now use for its high-end camera solution? The likely answer is "HUAWEI IMAGE".

We noticed this trademarked branding on the soon-to-be-launched Mate Xs 2 in the Philippines.

The Leica branding that is available on the first Mate Xs is not there anymore.

Based on the Huawei Mate Xs 2 product page, HUAWEI IMAGE is designed to bring "flagship-level" photography. It has a new True-Chroma Camera System bolstered by the new HUAWEI XD Optics".

Huawei notes that this camera system takes more light and heightens the level of detail and the XD Fusion Pro True-Chrome Image Engine generates authentic colors.

A Huawei representative told us that this is the new camera solution that the company will use now that Leica is gone.

Knowing Huawei, they probably learned a lot with their partnership with Leica and their cameras will surely stay great in the premium price segment.

But we will be lying if we say that we will not miss its game-changing collaborations with the legendary German camera maker.
