Unique Packaging
|
The new smartphone comes in a familiar ROG Phone packaging but with a new slide-then-unfold mechanism. Around the box are ROG branded decals, regulatory information, and key features.
 |
Box inclusions |
Inside the box are the phone, an 65W power brick, USB-C to USB-C charging cable, SIM ejector tool, bumper case, documentation, and a ROG card.
There is no included pair of earphones in the box even though the phone has a 3.5mm audio jack.
Build Quality/Design
 |
Hefty and solid |
The phone is made of a combination of premium metal and glass. The phone measures 173 x 77 x 10.3 mm and weighs 239 grams which we felt right out of the box. It is dense, weighty, and solid.
The back and front glass panels are prone to fingerprint smudges and both make the phone slippery to hold. We recommend wearing the included bumper case right away.
The phone also features a ton of gaming decals and unique touches.
 |
Vibrant panel |
In front of the phone is an OLED screen with an FHD+ 2400 x 1080 with a 165Hz refresh rate, 720Hz touch sampling rate, and 1,200 nits peak brightness. Above the notch is a slim earpiece.
The bezels on the sides are super slim while the top and bottom bezels are thick enough to house stereo speakers.
It is also Gorilla Glass Victus protected.
Anyway, the panel produces crispy and clear text while the images are sharp, detailed, and vibrant. Out of the box, the panel is bright enough to be readable indoors. It is super responsive too.
 |
The second screen allows for unique animations |
At the back of the phone is the ROG Vision color PMOLED display that can be customized to display unique animations, charging status and notifications.
 |
Top and bottom |
On top are two antenna lines and a microphone while at the bottom is the 3.5mm audio jack, microphone port, USB-C port, two more antenna lines, and a microphone port. Regulatory information is also printed on.
 |
Left and right sides |
On the left of the phone are the SIM tray, antenna lines, and a USB-C port while on the right are the volume rocker and the power button. The SIM tray and the power button are painted blue accent color.
 |
Shoulder trigger button |
On both ends of the right side are the capacitive AirTriggers that have been a staple in ROG phones.
 |
SIM tray's blue accent color stands out |
The SIM tray can carry up to two nano-SIM cards. There was no visible rubber gasket for water and dust resistance.
The device measures 173 x 77 x 10.3 mm and weighs 239 grams.
 |
Rear cameras |
At the back of the phone is the 50MP f/1.9 1/1.56-inch Sony IMX766 sensor primary camera, 13MP f/2.4 125-degree ultra-wide camera, and 5MP f/2.0 macro camera while in front is a 12MP Sony IMX663 front-facing camera.
 |
With the new and improved Aero Active Cooler |
Alongside the new smartphone are a ton of accessories. This includes the latest Aero Active Cooler 6 which is now bigger and better. Aside from active cooling the phone, comes with four physical gaming buttons that ASUS says offers console-like control.
 |
With the Kunai |
The next accessory is the ROG Kunai 3 Gamepad. ASUS says that it is an all-in-one modular gamepad that also offers a wired connection while offering an ergonomic gaming experience. It has a handheld mode and an All-in-one mode.
 |
Screen Protector and anti-shock case |
Lastly, the phone is supported with accessories like an official Glass screen protector and a third-party anti-bacterial bumper case.
We will be trying its cameras and the device for gaming so we can show them to you in our full review soon.
