Several European countries have issued a safety warning on the popular Filipino noodle brand Lucky Me! Pancit Canton.

High levels of Ethylene oxide (pesticide) in Lucky Me! Pancit Canton

The reason? The noodles manufactured in Thailand contain high levels of Ethylene oxide, a type of chemical commonly used to manufacture pesticides and disinfectant.

The European countries that issued the warning are Ireland, France, and Malta. They told their constituents not to consume the popular Filipino instant noodles. The governments ordered to recall the instant noodles in question being sold in their markets.

In Malta, the variants affected are Instant noodles Pancit Canton ORIGINAL Flavour, Instant noodles Pancit Canton HOT CHILI Flavour, Instant noodle soup BEEF, Instant noodles Pancit Canton KALAMANSI Flavour, and Instant noodles Pancit Canton CHILIMANSI Flavour.


Update: FDA also declared Lucky Me! safe for consumption.

The affected batch has a best before date of July 20, 2022.

In Europe, the said pesticide is not authorized for use in foods sold in the EU.

The Irish Food Safety Authority notes that Although the consumption of the contaminated product does not pose an acute risk to health, there may be health issues if there is the continued consumption of ethylene oxide over a long period of time.

It is unsure if locally made variants of Lucky Me! Pancit Canton has the same chemical yet.
