DICT says SIM registration may be extended

The Department of Information and Communications Technology said it may give more time for the public to register their SIM cards.

April 26 deadline to be extended?

According to CNN Philippines, DICT Usec. Anna Mae Lamentillo said the department has the authority to prolong the SIM card registration period as the deadline approaches.

DICT has the prerogative to extend the SIM Registration process for another 120 days, she noted.

The department also reminded the public to make sure that they only register through official websites or platforms.

We are still deliberating on the matter. [But] now, we're focused on increasing the number of registrants before the April 26 deadline, she added.

The latest data showed that over 21 million Smart users have registered their SIMs, 17.2 million for Globe and 3.1 million for DITO Telecommunity.
