FREE WiFi for students
This was initially fired up at the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) – Obrero Campus in Davao City, allowing students to access the internet for their learning requirements, DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy said.
According to the DICT, two free WiFi hotspots were installed at USeP Obrero Campus.
A total of 22 more free WiFi sites are being eyed for deployment in state universities and colleges across the region.
The DICT chief was confident that with the expansion of the program, the country’s quality of education would improve as learners gain access to reliable sources available in the online world.
Many of our learners will finally gain better access to learning materials in cyberspace. [This] will also contribute to improving the quality of education by providing more online access to libraries, collaborative efforts in communicating with peers and experts from all over the world, and the utilization of digital tools in enhancing our learning experience, Uy said.
The Broadband ng Masa program delivers free and fast internet connection for Filipinos.
Last month, the program also reached the province of Antique.
