Meta will shut down Messenger Lite for Android in September

Meta announces they will be shutting down its Messenger Lite 9 years after its launch.

Goodbye FB Lite Messenger!

The Lightweight app was Facebook's answer for weaker devices that have a hard time running the standard Messenger and was first introduced last October 2016.

It's a simple basic messaging app without many features like the customizable design, chat heads, dark themes, and more.

Right now when you use the app, you'll see a prompt that will direct you to the main Messenger app. As claimed by 9to5Google, the Lite version will no longer be available to download on Google Play if you haven't downloaded it before.

As per Google, those who still use the app will no longer be able to use it beginning September 18. So you have at least 24 days before you make the switch.

Anyways, weaker devices can still have alternatives for basic messaging. After all, the Facebook Lite application is still up and running, or simply install the standard Messenger. And in case you don't know yet, even the standard Facebook app has also brought back the messaging feature.

So you have at least three alternatives to keep on using the service.
