We revisit the POCO F5's cameras after months of firmware updates in time for POCO Partners SEA Forum in Bangkok, Thailand.
POCO F5's rear cameras

The POCO F5 is a sleekly designed smartphone with a large 6.67-inch Gorilla Glass-protected Flow AMOLED screen with a 2,400 x 1080 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate.

Inside is the 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 octa-core processor, Adreno GPU, 8GB/12GB RAM, 256GB storage, and a 5,000mAh battery with 67W fast charging.

For cameras, at the back is the 64 f/1.79 main camera with OIS, 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera, and 2MP f/2.4 macro camera with an LED flash.

While in front is the 16MP f/2.45 selfie camera.

The stock camera app comes with the following modes: Photo, Portrait, Video, Night, Documents, Pro, 64MP, Short Video, Panorama, VLOG, Slow Motion, Time-lapse, and Long exposure.

The Pro mode comes with controls for ISO (50-6400), Shutter Speed (1/4000-30 secs), EV (+-4), Focus, and White Balance. You can also switch between the main camera and the ultra-wide camera.

It was our daily driver during our to Bangkok, for the POCO Partners Southeast Asia Forum.

Let's see how it performed.

Rear camera ultra-wide

The first two images listed above were taken in daylight. As you can see that the sharpness, detail, color, and contrast are on point. Great results.

The same could be said with the close-up shots. Images are sharp, detailed, vibrant and contrasty with a pleasing natural bokeh.

Daylight portrait mode

For the daylight selfie and selfie portrait, the images are sharp and detailed with the colors being vibrant.

While the portrait mode's artificial bokeh is decent, the edge detection could be improved. It struggled with individual hair fibres and the areas around the ears.

Rear camera Indoors ultra-wide

In indoors, the images are impressive, especially from the main camera. The main camera's image was slightly darker than the ultra-wide, but the sharpness, detail, color and contrast are on point.

Selfie indoors

The indoor selfies on the other hand struggled with white balance because of the warm lighting from the light sources. The image is also not as sharp as some noise was introduced. Otherwise, the selfie is decent but may struggle in low-light conditions.

As we were only in Bangkok for around 24 hours, we were not able to take images in low light.

Quick thoughts

POCO F5 rear design

The rear main camera and the ultra-wide perform outstandingly well in daylight and indoors with the images being sharp, detailed, vibrant and contrasty.

On the other hand, the selfies performed well in daylight but they may struggle indoors and in low light as grain and noise were introduced. There may be some situations where the selfie camera will struggle with challenging white balance.

Overall, we are happy with the images from the rear and selfie cameras. The minor concerns with the selfie camera's indoor and white balance can be tweaked with future firmware updates.

What do you guys think?
