TECNO introduces groundbreaking camera technologies!

The first is that TECNO followed the footsteps of HUAWEI and Xiaomi and introduced their very own variable aperture which the brand says it is called a W-shaped adjustable aperture. It is inspired by the eye of a cuttlefish and is made to remove glare in harsh lighting scenarios such as strong backlight.

This approach seems to be unique and we are curious about what sensor and lens combo TECNO uses with the W-shaped shutter. Below is a short clip of the demonstration.

Apart from that, TECNO also unveiled another groundbreaking feat. This will be the industry's first liquid telephoto macro lens. While the liquid lens has existed before, but it is the first time it has been used on a periscope shooter. Periscopes are huge and it's quite hard to achieve macro focusing within the standard two-section housing.

Below is the liquid lens demonstration.

TECNO's method is that they use voltage to tweak the lens curvature, thus dynamically adapting from long to narrow and achieving 5cm macro focusing. The brand also claimed that the liquid lens style permits a large sensor to be used.

Most smartphones take advantage of their ultrawide cameras for macro capabilities. However, their larger viewpoint causes significant visual distortion. The way to authentic macro photography is to use a greater focal length, as in this example with a periscope zoom.

Another highlight would be TECNO's universal Tone technology. It uses 3 AI-powered engines to perfect skin tones in images. The Multi-Skin Tone Restoration Engine calibrates and adjusts skin tones. The Multi-Skin Tone Restoration Engine uses a color spectral matrix based on skin color chromatic research to calibrate and alter skin tones.

On the other hand, there's also the Local-Tuning Engine which recognizes people within the area and plays around with tone mapping for a more striking photo. Lastly, the Computational Portrait Engine adds a nice aesthetic to the whole image.

Unfortunately, TECNO hasn't said when we will see these new technologies or which products. However, there's a high chance that the upcoming Phantom X series will be the one that utilizes the liquid lens and W-shaped aperture. We may also likely see it at the upcoming MWC early next year.

What do you guys think?
