Build Quality/Design
|
Bright yellow rear design |
The device is made with mostly polycarbonate material that looks quite premium due to its "metallic" finish. In front, it is glass with no mention of protection.
It is a bit slippery in the hands and a quite prone to fingerprint smudges. It even has a lower-end type of rubber gasket on the SIM tray slot that might provide minimal water splash resistance.
The device should last for quite a while with proper care.
Undeniably impressive look and build for the price!
From afar, you immediately notice the eye-catching yellow color and the massive camera bump. Upon closer inspection, there is a curved line pattern that reveals itself when the light hits it at certain angles. It glimmers depending on the angle of the light.
|
Infinix HOT 40 Pro's screen with TWICE Dahyun |
The screen is a 6.78-inch IPS screen with a 2,460 x 1,080 resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch sampling rate.
Around the panel are slim top and side bezels. The chin bezel is noticeably thicker than the rest. On the upper middle part of the screen is the punch hole that houses the selfie camera. Above it is the super slim ear piece.
|
Top and bottom view |
On top of the phone are the first speaker grill while at the bottom are the 3.5mm audio jack, microphone port, USB-C port, and the second speaker grill.
|
Left and right designs |
On the left side is the SIM tray while on the right are the volume rocker and the power button/fingerprint scanner. Both buttons are plastic and have a somewhat unsatisfying clicky feel when pressed.
|
Infinix HOT 40 Pro's SIM tray |
The SIM tray can carry up to two SIM cards and a microSD card.
|
iPhone-inspired camera hump |
At the back of the phone is the 108MP f/1.75 main camera, a 2MP f/2.4 macro camera, and an AI f/2.0 camera with a Quad-LED flash.
The stock camera app's modes include Photo, Beauty, Video, Film, Portrait, Super Night, Sky Shop, Pro, Panorama, Super Macro, Documents, Slow Motion, Timelapse, Dual-Video, Short Video, and AR space.
The Pro mode allows for controls of ISO (100-6400), Shutter Speed (30-1/1500 sec), EV (+-2), Focus, and White Balance.
First Camera Samples
|
Rear camera daylight 1x |
The daylight images have decent sharpness and deep contrast but the colors do not have that pop of vibrance.
|
Rear camera close-up |
When shooting close-ups, the main rear camera's depth of field is deep enough to keep the subject in focus. The image has decent sharpness but the color still lacks the pop of vibrance.
|
Daylight selfie |
|
Daylight portrait |
Both daylight and portrait selfies are decently sharp but the color and skin tone are still off. We also noticed a greenish discoloration in some areas.
Other key features of the phone include an In-Display fingerprint scanner, face unlock, stereo speakers, OTG, NFC, and fast charging.

Web surfing on the Infinix HOT 40 Pro |
The Infinix HOT 40 Pro is a compelling option for under PHP 7K.
The design is unique and eye-catching but the materials are what we expect from this price point.
What we love is the large 120Hz FHD+ IPS and the stereo speakers. Let's not forget the 256GB internal storage and the large 5,000mAh battery with 33W charging.
From the first shots, the 108MP delivers detailed and decently sharp images but could need tuning because of the lack of vibrance in color.
This also has a Metamaterial Antenna that is designed to improve its connectivity performance which we will check in our full review.
We will have to do more testing with the phone and its cameras to find out if it stands out and if it truly is the phone to beat for under PHP 7K.
Stay tuned.
