IDC: Transsion leads smartphone market in PH (1Q24)

Transsion maintains lead in PH

According to International Data Corporation’s (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, Southeast Asia smartphone shipments logged a 19 percent growth to 24 million units in the period.

The Philippines and Indonesia both posted 27 percent growth.

In the Philippines, Transsion secured the top spot at 44 percent, a wide lead against its competitors. IDC Philippines Senior Market Analyst Angela Jenny Medez said Trassion "had the fastest ascent growing more than 3x YoY."

1. Transsion - 44 percent (188 percent growth)
2. realme - 13 percent (-13 percent growth)
3. Xiaomi - 11 percent (14 percent growth)
4. Samsung - 10 percent (13 percent growth)
5. OPPO - 9 percent (-30 percent growth)

It was followed by realme (13 percent), Xiaomi (11 percent), Samsung (10 percent), and Oppo (9 percent).

Smartphone shipment in Southeast Asia continued to grow since mid of 2023 due to recovery in the ultra low-end segment which posted the highest gains, reaching a share of 29 percent in first quarter of 2024 from 20 percent a year ago, IDC Associate Research Director Kiranjeet Kaur said.

In other countries like Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, Samsung continued to be a dominant player. This is as the South Korean brand launched its Galaxy S24 series in the premium segment and new Galaxy A series models in the low to mid-price segments.
