To recap, the GT6 has a 50MP f/1.69 rear main camera with a 1/1.4-inch Sony LYT808 sensor with OIS, a 50MP f/2.0 2x telephoto camera with a 1/2.8-inch Samsung JN5 sensor, and an 8MP 112-degree ultra-wide angle camera with a 1/4-inch Sony IMX355 sensor with an LED flash.

While in front is the 32MP f/2.45 selfie camera with a 1/2.74-inch Sony IMX615 sensor.

The included modes of the stock camera app include Photo, Video, Portrait, Pro, Street, Hi-Res, Slo-Mo, Dual-View Video, Group Portrait, Movie, Long Exposure, Starry Mode, Night, Pano, Time-Lapse, Text Scanner and Tilt-Shift.

The Pro controls include EV (+-3), the file format (JPG, RAW, RAW+), ISO (50-3,200), Shutter speed (1/8000-30 secs), Focus, and White Balance.

Added features include Aspect Ratio, Timer, Histogram, Interval Shooting, and Focus Peaking.

The Portrait Mode is equally robust with bokeh strength control (f/1.4-16), and Beautifcations and it allows switching between 1x and 2x cameras.

Here are our shots.

realme has chosen a 1x, 2x, 4x in-sensor zoom and an ultra-wide camera that has somewhat consistent exposure. However, the ultra-wide is noticeably softer than the 1x, 2x, and 4x cameras in daylight.

When shooting indoors, the images are as good as in daylight but what impressed us in the above scene is that even though it was bright daylight, the scene through the glass windows is not overexposed. The colors and details are consistent across the frame. The ultra-wide is also slightly softer than the others.

When shooting close-ups, the detail, color, and contrast are good too. When using the longer focal lengths we get a shallower depth of field so the areas that are in focus are small but it gives a pleasing and smooth bokeh or out-of-focus areas.

In low light, the 1x and 2x produced images with almost no grain with good color, contrast, and detail. The 4x and ultra-wide are noticeably softer and are easier to overexpose.

For selfies, we find its 32MP f/2.8 produced selfies with good sharpness, detail, and contrast. However, the skin tones are inconsistent. There are scenes where it is spot on while there are others where it's off because of the current lighting (indoors).

The portrait mode's edge detection is excellent. It almost didn't struggle and was just thrown off by a small number of individual hair fibers. The bokeh intensity can be tweaked. We recommend lowering it to f/2.8 for the best results. The higher apertures look too intense and somewhat unnatural.

Quick thoughts

We enjoyed using the cameras of the GT6 however, the difference in sharpness and detail from the 1x and 2x telephoto when compared to the 8MP ultra-wide is noticeable. The choice to use an 8MP helped lower the price, so we cannot fault it. It does beg the question of what is the customer's priorities? Ultra-wide or telephoto?

What impressed us is the robust number of features and modes built-in in the app. Most people wouldn't even make time for them but we encourage them to, especially in the street, Pro and Starry modes.

Images produced are consistently good in daylight and indoors but the ultra-wide and the 4x cameras are noticeably softer in low light. We also noted how unstable the 4x camera is when handheld.

We also liked the video from the camera but unfortunately, when shooting 1080 or 4K, only the 1x, 2x, and 4x can be used. It would have been great if the rear ultra-wide was there too.
