Acer went for the bang by showcasing a unique concept for a gaming laptop with its Project DualPlay at IFA Berlin 2024.
The new design tackles having a "beefy gaming experience on the go" for 2-players. As evident in the image, the laptop boasts a magnetic detachable gamepad on the palm rest/touchpad position.
You can remove it by simply placing your two fingers on the release button which you can find on top of the keyboard. By doing so, you can also trigger popping out the 2 HiFi 5W speakers on the side of the laptop for immersing audio gaming.
Of course, it screams a gamer vibe with more RGB lighting on the keyboard, display bezels, trackpad, and rear of the gamepad.
With this concept, you can do 2-player gaming with your friends using the gamepad while the other one uses the keyboard and mouse controls. If you're more of a solo type, this allows users to switch seamlessly between to playing styles of their choice.
Honestly, there are the likes of Nintendo Switch and Lenovo Legion Go with multiplayer control options too but lack the real horsepower of discreet GPUs.
For portable gamers who care about ultra graphics and maxed-out frame rates this kind of concept matters.
Anyway, there's also the idea of getting a capable gaming laptop and then just buying a "compact" gamepad. Although they may lack the matching design with your gaming behemoth and hall sensors for joysticks and triggers.
Currently, Project DualPlay remains a concept, and Acer left minimal details. It lacks specifics on the processor, graphics, battery life, or additional features. Moreover, there is no indication of pricing or availability.
With that said, did you find it interesting?
