Google said its flagship foldable is "super durable" that's why the prominent phone repair and durability test YouTuber JerryRigEverything has put those claims to the test.
In the 8-minute video, the foldable device featuring Gorilla Glass Victus 2 demonstrated notable scratch resistance, withstanding scratches at level 6 on the Mohs hardness scale. Meanwhile, the primary UTG screen, which is covered in plastic, showed scratches at level 2.
The situation got worse when JerryRig started adding sand and small rocks onto the main screen, which then quickly went inside the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and its hinge mechanism.
Moving to the bend test which began at 5 minutes and 40 seconds, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold failed to last in this challenge.
Bending the phone from the back causes it to break in two, thus destroying the primary screen while the cover panel becomes detached. Jerry Rig points out the primary issue seems to come from an antenna line that is doubled on both sides of the foldable screen.
After the rigorous durability test, JerryRig swiftly transitions into a teardown as the phone is laid bare. You can definitely see the critical components of the phone such as the UTG screen, mainboard, vapor chamber, cameras, and pair of batteries.
While foldable smartphones are expected to snap in half when being forced, there are actually devices that have survived the extreme testing of JerryRigEverything. A few of those came from Samsung such as the Galaxy Fold5 and Fold6 as well as the OnePlus Open.
What do you guys think?
