Testing a new version

The cheaper YouTube subscription may soon come back as reports said Google is in the trial stage for a different version of YouTube Premium Lite.

According to a report by Android Authority, a Google spokesperson said the company is "testing a different version of Premium Lite" and that users in "Australia, Germany and Thailand may see the option to sign up."

To recall, Premium Lite, which was launched in some European countries, ended on October 25, 2023. However, some users recently said they are seeing the option to subscribe to this cheaper alternative.

Monthly subscription then was EUR 6.99 or around PHP 440 for ad-free viewing, like Premium, but subscribers were not able to do offline downloads, background playback, or access any YouTube Music benefits.

According to information shared online, the newer version now only offers a "limited ad-supported experience." Still, it works across devices and is missing offline downloads, background playback, and YouTube Music Premium.

In the Philippines, YouTube announced a price hike for its Premium subscription with the "Individual Plan" increasing from PHP 159 per month to HP 189 per month.

Let's watch out if this time, YouTube Premium Lite will also be launched in the Philippines.

What do you think guys?
