A glimpse of next-gen mobile photography

This isn't actually new. Previously we've seen the Xiaomi 12S Ultra Concept 3 years ago with a detachable lens too, and uses the 1-inch sensor of the phone.

The difference this time will be that the detachable lens has an image sensor inside it, then connects to the back of the phone via magnets and is able to transfer power and data.

According to Wired's exclusive hands-on, it uses a Xiaomi 35mm f/1.4 lens equipped with 100MP Light Fusion X type 4/3 sensor, which definitely makes it a larger lens compared to what the current flagship smartphone uses today.

This new concept brings a whole new portable professional photography, allowing users to have a slim profile phone, then attach the lens and get way better shots than traditional phone cameras.

But don't get too excited yet, as Xiaomi is not bringing this to the commercial market at least for now, as they are only gathering feedback from the crowd.

Still the potential of this idea is high. This will allow the phone maker to design smartphones and make them slimmer, all while having the ability to have a good quality camera whenever needed.

In related news, a competitor brand, realme is also gearing up for a detachable lens (it could be a concept or not) with 10x optical zoom.

What do you guys think?
