The government of Albania has introduced a new way to fight corruption by utilizing the capabilities of artificial intelligence.

According to a BBC report, Albania has introduced a new cabinet member who is the work of AI. Called Diella, which means sun in Albanian, this will be used to ensure that public tenders will be free from corruption.

Prime Minister Edi Rama introduced Diella as a member of his new cabinet. However, the move was symbolic rather than official, as Albania's constitution insists that government ministers must be mentally competent citizens aged at least 18.

As mentioned, Diella will be ensuring that Albania will become "a country where public tenders are 100 percent free of corruption."

The official told the BBC that the government is working with a team to come out with the first full AI model in public procurement.

Aside from preventing any influence on public bidding, Diella also aims to make the process faster and more efficient.

Prior to this, Diella was already being used as an AI-powered virtual assistant, guiding applicants through the process to obtain official documents.

Should the Philippines implement the same technology?
