Locally developed electric passenger ferry

The Philippines recently unveiled M/B Dalaray, its first locally developed electric passenger ferry that will fuel the push for sustainable transportation.

According to a PhilStar report, M/B Dalaray was developed by UP Diliman's Electrical and Electronics Engineering Institute, led by Dr. Lew Andrew R. Tria.

Designed as a clean, quiet alternative to the current MMDA diesel fleet, this ferry is a major upgrade. It operates with two 50 kW electric outboard motors and can also run with its hybrid solar inverter system that utilizes roof-mounted solar panels.

When fully charged, the 40-passenger e-ferry has a two-to-three-hour sailing capacity. Since the end-to-end trip from Guadalupe to Escolta takes only about 45 minutes, the ferry can still finish one round trip before needing a brief charge to resume service.

Charging time takes roughly 2 to 3 hours. There are currently three charging stations set up along the Pasig River, located in Guadalupe, Escolta, and Napindan.

M/B Dalaray, to be integrated into the existing Pasig River Ferry Service, will serve routes along Manila, Makati, Mandaluyong, Pasig, and Taguig starting in November.

What do you think, guys?
