Would you consider a robot butler in the future?

The robot navigates on large, sturdy wheels, with a torso designed to maintain a low center of gravity for balance and the ability to raise or lower as needed.

Its head features a display capable of rendering expressive digital eyes, speakers for an AI-generated voice, a camera, and the integrated chipset that functions as its primary processor.

CLOiD's arms are a notable technical feature, with mobile shoulders, elbows, and wrists capable of bending forward, backward, and laterally, as well as rotating—a design intended to replicate human arm mobility. Each hand includes five actuated fingers engineered for fine motor tasks.

While LG did not provide a comprehensive list of capabilities, a company representative stated CLOiD is envisioned to "handle household chores such as loading, switching, and folding laundry.
A personal assistant who can bring you food

The robot is also described as being able to load and unload a dishwasher, retrieve and transport food items in the kitchen, potentially assist with food preparation by stirring, pick up objects around the home, and engage in conversational interaction.

During the demonstration, however, LG noted CLOiD remains a prototype requiring further refinement. The presentation itself appeared limited in scope.

The robot accepted a towel dropped into its hand by a presenter and tossed it into a laundry machine that opened automatically as the robot approached—a sequence requiring minimal autonomous motor function. Movement between actions was deliberate, contributing to a measured, slow-paced interaction.

The demonstration highlighted a recurring theme at CES, where concept robots from major manufacturers, including LG and Samsung, are frequently showcased but seldom transition to consumer release.

While some of LG's commercial models have reached the market, neither company has yet released a functional general-purpose home assistant robot.

Should CLOiD eventually become available, practical considerations may impact its adoption. The robot is anticipated to carry a high price point and may require a suite of compatible LG appliances to fully utilize its intended capabilities.

CES has historically been a stage for both speculative prototypes and transformative products that eventually reach the market. Whether CLOiD will follow the latter path remains an open question, though its proposed functionality represents an ambitious vision for home automation.

What do you guys think?
