The majority of the materials used is the company's signature FXT Ballistic Nylon, promising long-lasting durability and extreme abrasion resistance.
I've been using it for a month already, and there is no damage or whatever to its nylon body.
TUMI said that it has also passed multiple test combinations, including the Seam Strength, Tearing Strength, Zipper Cycling, and Water Repellency.
It is not fully waterproof, meaning it cannot be submerged in water like most bags, but it has solid protection against light rain, splashes, and spills.
The zippers, cushioning on the strap, and the leather trim on the top handle, zipper pulls, and logo patch all feel high-quality as well.

| Magnetic zipper garage |
It also has a nice magnetic zip garage for the two main zippers for a neat look.
Easily, this feels more durable and of higher quality than all the backpacks I've had in the past. But only time will tell if it is as tough as advertised.
Guaranteed tough yet professional-looking
The design is minimalist and won't stand out too much, especially the Black variant. This is also available in Blue with similar pricing, or the even more expensive Black leather counterpart (PHP 63,990 SRP).
Moreover, for its around 20L capacity, the backpack is slim, measuring 40.5 x 29 x 14cm. When expanded, it adds a 2.5-inch size (around 6.35cm) to bring its capacity up to 25 liters.
The new Alpha also now has a lighter design at 1.33 kg.
I also like that it has TUMI's signature Monogram patch and Luggage tag, where users can put their initials for extra personalization.
If I have nitpicks, the chrome-painted TUMI logo is a bit prone to hairline scratches. While it has no effect on its durability, there are some wrinkles on the fabric if the backpack is not fully packed.

| Impressive comfort |
Thanks to its high-quality strap, the comfort is also superb. Of course, this strap is adjustable and has tail keepers.
Although heavier than my Alpaka Bravote totepack (1.01 kg) and the 700‑gram tomtoc G‑Crew 16" Flap, the TUMI Medium 15" Expandable Backpack feels lighter and more comfortable in use.
Its airy design prevents a sweaty back even after hours of walking, making it easy to wear for long stretches—good for travel and extended flights.
Plenty of pockets, functions
For individuals who often travel like me, the TUMI Medium 15" Expandable Backpack has 3 things that I really like.
 |
| Half of the things I put inside the bag |
First, it is expandable. As mentioned, this adds a 2.5-inch space, bringing its capacity from 20L to 25L. This allowed me to put the padded insert bag for my Canon EOS R8 camera and a 35mm lens.
This extra space also allowed me to put my tech kit bag on top, and I still have a slot for another storage insert for my extra t-shirt and underwear when travelling.
The cool part? The bag is still not full after that.
Plenty of useful slots and functions
Only one thing is missing. In order to allow the bag to have an expandable design, TUMI wasn't able to add a water bottle or umbrella holder on the sides.
My solution is to purchase a water-absorbing umbrella storage bag.
Second, it has the "Add-a-Bag sleeve," which allows users to stack the bag into the luggage for hands-free convenience.
There is also an extra compartment, where I can store and easily get the phones I review in its "Back quick-access microfiber-lined pocket with hidden magnetic snap closure."
 |
| Laptop and tablet area |
Third, this fits up to 16-inch laptops and has an extra slot for a tablet. The laptop and tablet area has some of the thickest and highest-quality padding I've seen on a backpack yet for extra protection.

It also has 2 D-rings on the strap for carabiners, keys, and more. Users will also find a large open pocket, 2 zip pockets, 2 elastic pockets, 2 card pockets, 2 pen loops, an organizational open pocket, a hidden pocket behind the leather patch, a key leash inside the front compartment, and the TUMI Tracer for warranty and history of your bag.
Quick thoughts
The TUMI Medium 15" Expandable Backpack is expensive at PHP 47,990 SRP, but it has nearly everything I need.
From its water splash-resistant and rugged yet premium and professional-looking signature FXTballistic nylon fabric, stylish leather accents, to all the above-mentioned functionalities and quirks.
It is not perfect and has a few weak points, but those won't change the fact that this is the best backpack I've owned yet.
I will still use my other alternate backpacks on more casual occasions, but on travels or business meetings, this is my new go-to buddy.
Overall, it balances durability, style, and practicality, giving you a sleek backpack that adapts to different needs without compromising on professional appeal.
