HoverAir has launched the HOVERAir AQUA in the Philippines, a self-flying camera drone the company describes as the world's first 100% waterproof aerial camera designed specifically for water-based activities. 

The AQUA follows a crowdfunding debut on Indiegogo in 2025 and is aimed at water sports enthusiasts, including wakeboarders, kayakers, sailors, paddleboarders, anglers, and jet-skiers, who want to capture aerial footage without a dedicated camera operator. The drone tracks and films users autonomously, requiring no manual piloting. It has received a Red Dot Award for design and innovation.

100% waterproof

Weighing under 250 grams, the AQUA is rated IP67 waterproof and positively buoyant, meaning it floats and can take off again if it lands on water. The device is built to withstand winds up to Level 7, reach speeds of 55 km/h, and operate in saltwater environments. A hydrophobic lens, anti-fog technology, and corrosion-resistant construction are among its water-specific design features.

Reliable for scenic shots

On the imaging side, the AQUA is equipped with a 1/1.28" CMOS sensor capable of recording 4K video at up to 100 fps. It offers more than 15 intelligent flight modes, including Paddle Mode, Kayak Mode, and Surf Mode, and features a SmoothCapture stabilization system designed to maintain steady footage in choppy or windy conditions.

Wakeboard World Champion Dominik Gührs, who has used the device, weighed in on its appeal for content creators. 

AQUA has completely changed the game for me when it comes to creating content. I no longer need a filmer following me around, carrying all the gear, and planning every shot. Now I can get out on the water and capture epic wakeboarding footage all by myself. It makes creating content so much more fun and effortless, said Gührs.
