Globe deploys satellite‑to‑mobile connectivity in Mindanao for disaster response
According to the company, the service provides FREE data and messaging for up to 30 days, ensuring vital communication for over 700,000 Globe and TM customers in affected areas.
This marks Globe's first use of Starlink’s technology for emergency response in the Philippines, highlighting how satellite‑to‑mobile solutions can strengthen network resilience during crises. The deployment was made possible through demo permits from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC).
Globe also revealed that the company continues to work with local government units and electric cooperatives to restore its network services.
The telco giant added that customers will be guided on how to connect using their existing Globe SIMs and LTE phones, making the satellite service a key complement to Globe's broader disaster recovery efforts in Mindanao.
Why does this matter?
- Philippine first - The country’s first real‑world use of satellite‑to‑mobile tech for disaster response.
- Direct‑to‑cell access - Over 700,000 Globe and TM users can connect via WhatsApp and SMS with existing SIMs and LTE phones—no special devices needed.
- Boosting resilience - Shows how satellite‑to‑mobile can back up terrestrial networks during outages.
- Future readiness - Serves as a test case for emergency connectivity in a disaster‑prone archipelago.
