Sony's best headphones yet?

Sony's 1000X series has been the standard-bearer for premium noise-cancelling headphones for nearly a decade. Since the original model launched in 2016, the lineup has built a reputation for strong active noise cancellation, immersive sound, and comfortable, long-wear design.

To mark the series' 10th anniversary, Sony has introduced the 1000X THE COLLEXION (WH-1000XX), a flagship model built around premium materials, studio-tuned audio, and updated processing hardware.

Design

The headphones use a stainless steel frame finished with a mix of sandblasted matte texture and polished gloss accents, paired with faux leather earcups and headband. Sony says the materials are meant to feel natural to the touch while holding up to daily use.

Black colorway

The headband is wider and more cushioned than previous models, and the earcups are larger, which Sony says helps distribute weight more evenly for extended wear. 

Meanwhile, there's a metal exoskeleton running through the design for added durability and visual contrast, giving the headphones a cleaner, more understated look overall. 

The COLLEXION weighs 320 grams and comes in Black or Platinum. It ships with a magnetic carrying case that has a built-in handle for travel.

Sound and hardware

Sony says the headphones produce a balanced sound profile, with controlled bass, natural-sounding vocals, and clear high frequencies. The company worked with mastering engineers from Battery Studios, Sterling Sound, and Coast Mastering to tune the drivers, aiming for a sound that stays close to how tracks were originally mixed.

Platinum color 

Inside, the headphones run on two processors: the HD Noise-Canceling Processor QN3 and a new Integrated Processor V3. Together, they handle high-resolution audio through LDAC, improved digital-to-analog conversion, and spatial audio processing.

Battery life is rated at up to 24 hours with noise cancellation on, and a 5-minute quick charge adds about 90 minutes of playback. The headphones use Bluetooth 6.0 with LE Audio support.

Software features

The COLLEXION works with Sony's Sound Connect app, which includes a 10-band EQ, Adaptive Sound Control, and 360 Reality Audio with head tracking. Other features include 360 Upmix, DSEE Ultimate for upscaling compressed audio, and AI-assisted beamforming microphones for clearer calls.

The headphones also support multipoint connection, Speak-to-Chat, Quick Attention, and automatic wear detection.

It is now available at Sony Centres and authorized dealers nationwide in Black or Platinum colorways.
