Marcos signs law institutionalizing support for GIDA schools

New law widens access to education

President Bongbong Marcos has signed the law that institutionalizes sustained government support, funding, and infrastructure development for public basic education schools in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA) across the country.

Ang Republic Act No. 12321, o GIDA Schools Act, ay isang mahalagang hakbang para matiyak na walang magiging hadlang sa bawat batang Pilipino na makapag-aral, saan man sila naroroon sa bansa, said Senator Bam Aquino, chairman of the Senate Committee on Basic Education and principal sponsor and co-author of the measure.

The senator noted that the measure will be a big help in alleviating the struggles students face, especially those who have to cross rivers or broken bridges, or walk kilometers just to get to school.

The measure provides clearer, stronger support to students, teachers, and communities in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas. This will cover wider access to schools, providing enough classrooms and learning resources, and incentives and support for teachers serving these communities.

Bibigyan din ng prayoridad sa pagkuha ang mga kuwalipikadong guro at iba pang kawani ng paaralan na mga residente o handang manirahan sa komunidad at may ugnayang pangkultura sa mga GIDA communities, upang mas maging epektibo ang kanilang pakikipag-ugnayan sa mga mag-aaral, Aquino said.
