Designed around HUAWEI's proprietary HarmonyOS ecosystem, the MateBook Fold series bridges the gap between ultra-portable tablets, versatile workstations, and full-sized desktop setups. Rather than relying on traditional x86 architecture, the lineup leverages custom Kirin silicon optimized specifically for multi-window productivity, stylus precision, and cross-device connectivity within HUAWEI's native ecosystem.

While maintaining the signature 18-inch footprint, the 2026 MateBook Fold introduces notable mechanical and material enhancements compared to its predecessor:

• Next Generation Waterdrop Hinge - HUAWEI re-engineered the main folding mechanism into al arger, multi-stage waterdrop hinge built with zirconium-based liquid metal components. This updated structure significantly reduces panel creasing, increases structural rigidity, and offers smoother hovering control across angles ranging from 30 to 150 degrees. It should provide a zero-gap fold, minimal crease, and multi-angle hovering.
• Refined Vegan Leather Exterior - The rear chassis features an upgraded silicone-coated vegan leather finish. It improves tactile grip and durability while maintaining a luxury aesthetic resistant to fingerprint smudges and wear over time.
• Streamlined Built-in Kickstand - The integrated rear kickstand has been refined for improved stability when deploying the device in full 18-inch desktop landscape mode or in upright portrait mode.
• Optimized Weight & Thickness - Despite packing enhanced thermal hardware and larger hinge mechanisms, the main tablet body maintains a thin 7.3mm profile when fully unfolded and weighs approximately 1.16kg.

HUAWEI is claiming that it features flagship high-performance hardware, including an 18-inch tandem Dual-Layer OLED display with Ultra-Thin Glass, boasting a peak HDR brightness of 1,600 nits and 30 percent lower power consumption. It has a 4:3 aspect ratio, a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and it covers the P3 wide color gamut.

The display also natively supports the new AI-powered AI M-Pencil 3 Stylus. It enables precise handwriting recognition, low-latency sketching, and gesture controls directly on the flexible screen.

Inside is the HUAWEI custom Kirin X90 Plus processor with 28W TDP, which is advertised to perform 25 percent better with lower thermal output under sustained loads. 

It is cooled with an ultra-thin vapor chamber, and a dual-fan diamond aluminum cooling assembly paired with an ultra-thin vapor chamber ensures sustained CPU performance without severe thermal throttling.

It is heavily integrated with HarmonyOS 6.1 and its advanced AI-driven features, including intelligent voice assistance, systemic productivity tools, and seamless dynamic layout adjustments when transitioning between folded laptop, flat tablet, and propped desktop modes.

On top of the display is an 8MP front facing camera optimized for video conferencing. Around the laptop is a 6-speaker array and a 4-microphone far-field set-up. 

It is available in either flowing light gold, horizon white, or phantom black.

Other features include WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and StarFlash E1.0. It has a USB-C port on the right side and on the top side.

It supports the HUAWEI StarLeap portable keyboard with a 1.5mm key travel and pressure touch pad.

It is now available for purchase in China, and it comes with the magnetic detachable wireless keyboard, a matching protective case, a 140W GaN USB-C fast charger, and local HUAWEI Care options. HUAWEI has not yet confirmed an official international release schedule, keeping the MateBook Fold exclusively available in select regional markets for now.
