LG celebrated World Environment Day 2018 with global clean up drive

June 5 marks the celebration of World Environment Day by United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). LG helped celebrate with their own clean up drive.

LG Electronics helps celebrate World Environment Day 2018

This year's theme for World Environment Day is "Beat Plastic Pollution" which emphasizes the importance of a world free of plastic. They want to urge the public to reduce their reliance on single use or disposable plastic.

LG Electronics supports UNEP and World Environment Day by rallying nearly 40,000 employees all over the world to take action and help fight plastic solution. This the 9th consecutive year that LG participated in a worldwide effort to repair and restore the environment.

This year, LG Electronics is helping UNEP to organize and participate in cleaning coastals and riverbanks. They arranged a 24 hour relay event where their offices across the globe worked for a clean up activity benefiting the local community. It happened last May 24th with the team from LG Electronics Philippines starting the relay.

Unfortunately, the Philippines is the third biggest source of plastic ocean pollution in the world. LG Philippines helped Pasig by helping in the weekly clean up and rehabilitation of the more polluted areas along Pasig River. 45 employees participated including LG Philippines Managing Director Inkwun Heo. In addition to that, there are also 30 volunteers from the Solid Waste Management group of the Pasig City government.

LG’s eco-friendly initiatives are at the forefront of the ongoing revolution in renewable power, increased energy efficiency and environmentally friendly production.
