Fujifilm Instax Square SQ6

In case you missed it, the Instax Square SQ6 was launched along with the most-demanded Solid Square Black Film last May 2018. On paper, the main feature of this instant camera is that it can automatically adjust to the exposure of the subject's area when the shutter button is pressed.

Are you one for the instant cameras? Let's find out how the Instax Square SQ6 does its job!

Inside a beautifully designed box is the unit itself, two CR2 batteries, three colored flash filters, a camera strap, and some paper documents.

Build Quality/Design

Fujifilm Instax Square SQ6 comes in three colors: Blush Gold, Graphite Gray, and Pearl White. We chose the Graphite Gray color because we felt like it's the most versatile variant among the three. It has a a square-circle build and a very much modern-looking polaroid camera.

Modern-looking instant camera!

The front face of the Instax Square SQ6 features the lens, optical finder, flash, and a selfie mirror.

The Instax film ejects on the square slot placed on top of the camera along with the power slider on the rightmost.

At the back face of the Square SQ6 are three controls that include mode, timer, and flash buttons. A row of labels and lights of auto, double exposure mode, macro, and landscape are placed on the upper back.

You can find the film counter on the bottom right of the Instax Square SQ6. The films can be refilled by simply ejecting the empty film case at the back of the camera.

Both sides of the Instax Square SQ6 has strap lugs where you can easily attach the included strap.

However, we expected that the Instax Square SQ6 will feature a LCD screen display that can be found on the Mini 90.

Battery Life

We are a bit disappointed that the Instax Square SQ6 has CR2 batteries only. We wished that it featured a battery that can be topped up with a full juice by simply charging instead of buying another spare pack of CR2 batteries.

Print Quality

Fujifilm Instax Square SQ6 captures nice and decent photos. However, we noticed that it produces overly exposed photos under direct sunlight to the point that the face of the subject can be barely seen.

We liked the idea of the three purple, orange, and red. It was unexpectedly fun to use but what our mistake was, we should've used the filters on a more lowlighted area to emphasize the colors of the filters.

Unexpectedly fun filters!

Overall, the image quality of the photos taken by the Square SQ6 is nice and decent. Relative to other instant cameras, the shots of this camera are way better. It's also nice to note that the black square films are very nice and unique to look at since they're new in the eyes.

Performance

Instax Square SQ6 is a straightforward Fujifilm instant camera. It has very limited modes and depends on the manual buttons and counter.

The viewfinder was easy on the eyes but sometimes what you see before taking the photo is different from what turns out on the developed shot. We didn't have any issues on refilling the film. However, it happened twice that we took a shot but the film developed a pure black photo. We don't know why it happened but maybe it's a problem on our end.

It's also nice to note that the selfie mirror let us take selfies using an instant camera.

Easy selfies on an instant camera!

The Square SQ6 may look bulky but it is surprisingly lightweight.

Verdict

Overall, the Fujifilm Instax Square SQ6 is a simple instant camera that we recommend for beginners or for those who just want to have fun.

It sports a modern look of the instant cameras and has an optional accessory kit included. You also get to play with the latest Solid Square Black Film if you'll get the Instax Square SQ6.

This instant camera may lack some features but it gets the job done. Fujifilm Instax Square SQ6 is definitely for the instant-curious. You can get it for PHP 7,999 and add PHP 600 for a pack of 10's of the Solid Square Black Films!

It's also set to have its Taylor Swift limited edition in no time soon so for '#Swifties' like me, stay tuned!
