The entry-level to get is?

J4+
J4+

Build/Design - The Galaxy J4+ has a smooth glossy glass-like back. The Realme C1 also has that type of material at the back. Both are mostly made out of plastic and a 2.5D glass screen. However, only the Realme C1 has the tougher Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection for the screen.

Interestingly, the C1 is also the smaller smartphone despite having the bigger 6.2-inch screen compared with the 6-inch screen of the J4+. It is due to its smaller bezels and higher screen aspect ratio. It goes with a 19:9 screen and 88 percent of screen to body ratio.

Display - The J4+ comes with a large 6-inch HD+ screen. Again, the 6.2-inch screen of the Realme C1 is bigger. But, the pixel density of the J4+ is a bit higher. Both are using IPS panels. Quality is comparable in real life.

Specs - It is clear that the Realme C1 is equipped with the beefier specs. It has the more powerful Snapdragon 450 processor. It's a chip commonly found on phones in the PHP 10K price range. It is even paired with the Adreno 506 GPU which can handle some heavy games at medium settings.

On the other hand, the J4+ only has the Snapdragon 425 processor. It is an entry-level chip designed to run light tasks.

Both have 2GB RAM/16GB ROM. Both are also expandable with a dedicated microSD slot. The J4+ has a higher expandable storage up to 512GB. But who will buy a microSD card that is even more expensive than the phone?

The battery capacity of the Realme C1 is also way higher. It goes with a 4,230mAh battery versus the 3,300 of Samsung.

Cameras - The Galaxy J4+ is equipped with a 13MP sensor with bright f/1.9 aperture size. It could be the slightly better low light shooter. But in our actual test, the Realme C1 should compete very well with any under PHP 10K smartphone. It has a 13MP f/2.2 + 2MP f/2.4 dual-camera setup.

For selfies, both arrived with a 5MP sensor. But, only Realme has AI to ensure better looking selfies.

Other features - Both have 4G LTE and Bluetooth 4.2. The GPS of J4+ is more complete. It goes with GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, and BeiDou.

Samsung Galaxy J4+ advantages - Brighter f/1.9 rear camera, near complete GPS, fingerprint scanner
Realme C1 advantages - Speedier processor, better GPU, larger battery capacity, dual-camera, AI selfie camera, higher LTE category, more affordable price tag

Our thoughts

The Galaxy J4+ is a decent entry-level smartphone priced at PHP 6,990. It even has a stylish glossy back cover and a big 6-inch HD+ screen.

But, it is very clear in this comparison that the new Realme C1 is way ahead in terms of overall specs.

The amazing thing? The Realme C1 is even more affordable than the Galaxy J4+.

Now, who are you picking?
